What virtual-creator viewing tells AI drama teams—and what it does not

Start with the sample and the period

In an April 17, 2025 announcement, YouTube reported that a sample of 300 virtual creators generated more than 15 billion views during 2024. The figure combines videos, livestreams and Shorts. It is platform-reported viewing for that sample and year; it is not a count of AI-generated dramas or paying drama customers.

A virtual persona is not automatically AI-generated

The accompanying report describes several kinds of digital persona and a range of production techniques, including motion capture, games, CGI and artificial intelligence. Its definition therefore covers much more than generative video. Treating every virtual creator as an AI short-drama producer would change the meaning of the source data.

T1Drama's reading: measure a character's own audience

For a team building AI characters, this is a reason to investigate audience relationships rather than to assume that synthetic appearance prevents interest. It does not tell you which story will travel, which language to fund or how much a new series will earn. Those questions require evidence from the project and its intended release setting.

A practical first test is a clearly presented short scene, followed by another scene with the same character. Compare whether viewers finish the scene, return for the next one and understand the central conflict. Record results separately by language and format. These are proposed project measurements, not benchmarks from YouTube's report. Keeping that distinction visible makes the data useful without turning an adjacent creator trend into an invented market forecast.
