Beyond a beautiful frame: reading AI video benchmarks for short drama

What the original research measures

The original VBench paper, submitted in November 2023, separates video generation into 16 evaluation dimensions. Examples include subject consistency, movement smoothness, flickering and spatial relationships. It also compares its measurements with human preference annotations. These dimensions describe particular strengths and weaknesses, rather than a single definition of a good film.

A second layer: does the action make sense?

VBench-2.0, first submitted in March 2025, turns attention to human fidelity, controllability, creativity, physics and commonsense. Its authors distinguish visually convincing output from output that follows real-world principles. This is useful context for dramatic action: an attractive shot and a believable interaction are separate questions. The paper is research, not a platform delivery specification.

T1Drama's reading: test the scene you need

For an AI short drama, we suggest a small test sequence that includes a conversation, a prop changing hands and a character returning after a cut. Record which problems affect the story, which can be repaired in editing and which force another generation. Keep model version, input references and selection rules together so the comparison remains understandable.

Budget from usable shots, review time and revision work in that test, not from a leaderboard position. A polished demonstration can help you choose what to investigate, but it does not establish your production cost, audience response or an entire episode's continuity.
